Ya tengo un poco más de 2 años y medio viviendo en la prefectura de Hiroshima, y hace poco tuve la oportunidad de visitar la región de San'in (prefecturas de Shimane y Tottori). Decidí hacer un resumen de este viaje para ustedes. Espero que no se aburran 😊

My first time in Tottori prefecture
Daisen and 大神山神社

The Mizuki Shigeru Road
Two years ago I watch in Youtube a peculiar anime about youkai (Japanese ghosts). I did not know that the author of that history was raised in Tottori prefecture. His name is Mizuki Shigeru and his most famous history is "GeGeGe no Kitarou." No idea about the meaning of GeGeGe, and it seems that even the Japanese do not know about it.
My travel to San'in started in Yonago city, Tottori prefecture. After researching how to get there, I discovered that it takes too much time in train (there is no a direct route). The best method that I found is by bus. For buying your tickets, it is necessary to reserve your seats and make the payment with the reservation number.
Currently, the cost of a ticket for one way is ￥4000, however, if you buy the round trip ticket, there is a good discount and you only have to pay ￥7200. Each way last around 3 hours and half. I recommend you to make the reservation several days before your departure. The tickets are not open, so you have to indicate specifically the schedule of the buses that you prefer (all the information is available in the websites of the bus companies).
Yonago and surroundings
Yonago city is an important place for bird observation in Japan. The population is very low, which makes this city a very peaceful place to visit.
As an interesting feature of this city, there are many jizou statues. It seems that the cult and use of jizou goes centuries ago. There is even a "Jizou route" that I could not complete.
I arrived to Yonago at midday of October the 13th. After having lunch, I went for information to the tourist office in Yonago station. The attention was very good and the person there gave me information both in Japanese and English. I made my visit plan for the day and started to walk.
The first place that I visited was Yonago City San'in History Museum. They have interesting expositions and artifacts in the second floor, divided in three or more sections. One of the rooms is about Yonago during the war, other room offers information about the traditional life of peasants. I liked a room where they set a classroom with original objects. They have also a very complete collection of instruments and devices from the Showa period: looms, cameras, radios, sewing machines, televisions and more.
Near to the Museum, there are some corners worth to be visited: old cellars and pleasant small streets. However, it was time to visit my main objective of the day: the remnants of Yonago Castle.
The ruins of Yonago Castle are located in a small mountain near to the sea. Originally the building were small and currently only some walls and the bases of the main buildings remain. However, the view from the top, as well as the walk are refreshing and recommended.
After visiting the ruins of the Castle, I went for a walk to Minatoyama park. In that place you could enjoy sculptures, nature, a cage with monkeys and other attractions.

Daisen and 大神山神社
Daisen is the highest peak of the Chuugoku region and a compulsory destination for visitors. The quality of the water produced here is legendary. Additionally, there are sacred places worthy to visit.
I could only visit Oogami Jinja (大神山神社), however, the experience was very satisfactory. The stone road to this shrine transports you to the time when the shrine was build. The placid location of Oogami Jinja and its neighbor 下山神社 (Shitayama jinja?) is soothing.
There are many mountain courses, so if you have time it could be unforgettable to spend some hours or days on that national park.

Yuushien garden
This garden is located in one small island of Shimane prefecture named Daikonshima. I have visited bigger gardens, however, the facilities of Yuushien are very comfortable and obviously, the garden itself is beautiful and well maintained.
There are some events through the year and I went precisely during one of them. Parts of the pond and the floor were covered with flowers! That was quite the view.

The garden offers excellent views and a peaceful walk, as well as a store, a couple of restaurants, rest areas and a lounge. If you visit this region, Yuushien garden is a recommendation for you.

Mi primera vez en la prefectura de Tottori prefecture
Actualmente el costo de un tiquete (una vía) es de ￥4000, pero si se compran los tiquetes ida y vuelta se obtiene un buen descuento y el costo total es de solo ￥7200. Cada recorrido tarda alrededor de las tres horas y media. Como recomendación, es mejor hacer la reservación días antes del viaje. Los tiquetes no pueden ser abiertos, así que al hacer la reservación hay que elegir el bus específico (los horarios y detalles se pueden encontrar en los sitios web correspondientes).
Yonago y alrededores
La ciudad de Yonago alberga locaciones importantes para observación de aves en Japón. La población es muy escasa, lo que hace que este lugar sea sumamente tranquilo.Una característica interesante de esta ciudad son las muchísimas estatuas jizou que hay en esta ciudad. Las estatuas jizou no son poco comunes en Japón, pero en esta ciudad hay muchísimas y bajo distintas advocaciones. Parece que el culto y uso de estas estatuas está muy enraizada en la historia de esta ciudad desde siglos atrás. Incluso tienen una "ruta de los jizou", que yo no pude completar por falta de tiempo.
Llegué a Yonago a eso del medio día del 13 de octubre. Tras almorzar fui por información a la oficina de turismo de la estación de tren de Yonago. La atención fue muy buena y obtuve información tanto en inglés como en japonés. Hice mi plan para el día y empecé a caminar.
El primer lugar que visité fue el Museo de Historia de la Ciudad de Yonago y San'in. Ahí tienen interesantes exposiciones y objetos en el segundo piso, divididos en tres secciones o más. La entrada es gratis. Una ofrece información sobre la Yonago y la guerra, otra sobre la vida de los campesinos. Me gustó mucho la sala en donde recrearon una sala de clases con objetos originales. También tienen otro lugar con objetos y aparatos del periodo Showa: telares, cámaras, radios, máquinas de coser, televisiones y demás.

Cerca del museo hay otros lugares interesantes por visitar: edificios que fueron usados como bodegas y adorables calles antiguas. Sin embargo, era hora de visitar mi objetivo principal del día: las ruinas del castillo de Yonago.
Las ruinas están ubicadas en una pequeña montaña cerca del mar. Desde el principio el castillo era pequeño y actualmente solo quedan algunos muros y las bases de los edificios originales. Sin embargo, las vistas desde la parte más alta, así como la caminata son refrescantes y muy recomendadas.

Daisen y 大神山神社 (Oogamiyama jinja)
Daisen es el pico más alto de la región de Chuugoku y un destino obligado para los visitantes de esta región. La calidad del agua producida aquí es legendaria. Adicionalmente, hay muchos lugares sacrados que pueden ser visitados.
Solo pude visitar Oogami Jinja (大神山神社), pero la experiencia fue muy satisfactoria. El camino de piedra que conduce hasta este templo transporta a la época en que todo eso fue contruido. La hermanosa ubicación del templo, así como de su templo vecino 下山神社 (¿Shitayama jinja?) son refrescantes.

Yuushien garden
Este jardín se ubica en una pequeña isla de la prefectura de Shimane llamada Daikonshima. He visitado jardines más grandes que éste, sin embargo, las instalaciones de Yuushien son muy confortables y obviamente, el jardín por sí mismo es bello y se encuentra con muy buen mantenimiento.
El jardín organiza eventos durante el año y fui precisamente durante uno de ellos. ¡Parte de las lagunas y el jardín mismo estaban cubiertos por flores! Muy buena vista.
El jardín ofrece excelentes vistas y una caminata corta y tranquila, al igual que una tienda, un par de restaurantes, áreas de descanso y una estancia. Si usted visita esta región, el jardín Yuushien es sin duda alguna un lugar recomendado.
"Mizuki Shigeru Road"
Hace como dos años vi un video en Youtube sobre un peculuar anime sobre youkai (un tipo de fantasmas japoneses). No sabía que el autor de esta historia había vivido unos años en la prefectura de Tottori. Su nombre es Mizuki Shigeru y su obra más famosa es "GeGeGe no Kitarou." No tengo idea de qué significa GeGeGe, y tal parece que tampoco los japoneses saben.

La ciudad de Yonago creó una zona para celebrar el trabajo de Mizuki. Ésta consiste en un conjunto de productos, tiendas y estatuas al aire libre sobre los personajes de las obras de Mizuki. Las bases de estas estatuas son en piedra y las estatuas son metálicas, incluyendo información en Braille. Fueron creadas para ser disfrutadas por los ojos y los dedos, en caso de personas con problemas de visión. ¡Excelente idea!
Para disfrutar este lugar aún más, recomiendo investigar sobre Mizuki Shigeo o al menos sobre su obra "GeGeGe no Kitarou" antes de venir por acá.
